SEAI pays up to €300 towards a home charge point. It is not knocked off the installer's invoice up front. You pay the installer, then SEAI pays you once the paperwork is in. That one detail is why the order of events matters more than anything else on this page.
Do not let anyone start work before your Letter of Offer arrives. SEAI's wording is to not commence any work before the start date on the letter, otherwise the expenditure is deemed ineligible. There is no appeal. People lose the €300 on sequencing, not on eligibility.

No. SEAI's own guidance is not to commence any work before the start date on your Letter of Offer, otherwise the expenditure is deemed ineligible. This is the single most common way people lose the 300 euro. The eligibility was never the problem, the order was.
The grant offer is valid for six months from the date it is issued. If the installation is not completed and the paperwork submitted inside that window, you are no longer eligible to claim.
No. Homeowners and residents can apply whether or not they currently own an electric vehicle, which means you can have the grant offer in hand before the car is even delivered.
Not under this grant. The home charger grant requires a private off-street parking space at the property. Apartment blocks and shared car parks are covered by a separate SEAI scheme that is normally applied for by the owners' management company rather than by an individual resident.
SEAI requires the electrical work to be carried out by an electrical contractor registered with Safe Electric Ireland, and the charger itself must appear on SEAI's Smart Charger Register. A charger bought online that is not on that register will not be grant-eligible no matter who fits it.
One grant is available per meter point reference number, so one per property. A home that already received an EV home charger grant, or a free ESB ecars charger before 2018, is not eligible again.
