Installing a home EV charger costs €899 to €1,595, most often about €1,249, or €599 to €1,295 after the €300 SEAI grant. The chargers cost the same in Oranmore; the house sets the extras. Of the homes in County Galway, 43.9% were built in 1990 or earlier (Ireland: 50.8%), and homes built before 1990 can need €500 to €650 more for new meter tails, earthing and a fuse board. The grant needs a private off-street parking space, and 77.6% of Oranmore households live in a house rather than a flat (Census 2022).
Oranmore has no ESB charge point in the town despite the nearest being only 200 m away at the rail station car park, and a 22% apartment share unusually high for a Galway commuter town.
We cover Oranmore (H91) and the rest of County Galway, introducing homeowners to Safe Electric registered electrical contractors.

SEAI's €300 home charger grant requires a private off-street parking space. Apartments and shared car parks go through a separate scheme, normally applied for by the owners' management company. In Oranmore, 77.6% of households live in a house or bungalow and 22.0% in a flat or apartment, so for most homes here, the grant is on the table.
The second figure to look at is cars per household. 49.6% of Oranmore households run two or more, and a second car is usually what tips someone from "the public charger will do" to "I need one at the house". Nationally there are about 38.2 private electric cars for every public charge point; in County Galway it is 29.3. Public charging is the backup. The wall box is the one you actually use.
Do not let any installer start work before your SEAI Letter of Offer arrives. SEAI's own wording is not to commence work before the start date on the letter, otherwise the expenditure is deemed ineligible. There is no appeal. 2,792 grants have already been paid across County Galway, so this is not hypothetical. It is the single most common way people lose the money, and it has nothing to do with whether they qualified.
Installed prices typically run from €899 to €1,595, most often about €1,249, or €599 to €1,295 after the €300 SEAI grant. Ask for a written price that states the VAT. The chargers cost the same in Oranmore. What moves the bill is the house: 43.9% of homes in County Galway were built in 1990 or earlier (Census 2022), and homes built before 1990 can need €500 to €650 more for new meter tails, earthing and a fuse board. The Safe Electric registered contractor we introduce you to confirms a fixed written price before any work starts.
The grant needs a private off-street parking space at the property. In Oranmore, 77.6 per cent of households live in a house or bungalow rather than a flat or apartment, so most homes here are the right shape for it. The rule that catches people out is sequencing: do not let anyone start work before your Letter of Offer arrives, or SEAI deems the spend ineligible and the 300 euro is gone with no appeal. Across County Galway, 2,792 SEAI EV grants were paid between 2021 and 2025.
ESB ecars lists no charge point inside Oranmore itself, though 7 sit within 5 kilometres. That is the ESB network only: other operators are not included, so treat it as a floor rather than a total. County-wide there are 177 public charge points serving 5,190 private electric cars, about 29.3 cars per charger against 38.2 nationally.
